Description:
The cow tail for your rescue PFD. The NRS Tow Tether, often called a "cow tail," clips into the quick-release harness on a rescue life jacket for towing boats and swimmers during rescues (NRS item 50005.03). It has a built-in bungee, and its twist-lock carabiner resists snagging on brush. Swiftwater rescuers and raft guides can find more carabiners and hardware to round out a kit.
Features
- Built-in bungee: the tether stretches under load and returns to its shorter length, keeping it compact on the PFD.
- Large forged aluminum O-ring: rated to 33 kN, with a hook patch that helps center it on PFDs that have loop material sewn on the back.
- NRS Nuq Twist Lock Carabiner: locking gate helps prevent accidental snags on brush in the field or on other gear.
- Quick-release carabiner holder: a hook patch on the carabiner end mates with a loop piece found on some rescue PFDs.
- Two lengths: choose the 33" or 53" tether to suit your towing style.

Questions about the NRS Tow Tether
What is a tow tether or cow tail?
It is a short bungee tether that attaches to the quick-release harness on a rescue PFD, so a rescuer can tow a boat or connect to a line and release it instantly if needed.
What is the breaking strength?
The O-ring has a minimum breaking strength of 33 kN.
Which length should I choose?
The 33" tether stretches to 33" and is 19" unstretched; the 53" tether stretches to 53" and is 33" unstretched. Add 6" for the carabiner and O-ring. The shorter version keeps the load close; the longer one gives more reach.
What kind of carabiner is included?
It comes with an NRS Nuq Twist Lock Carabiner, which helps prevent accidental snags on brush in the field or on other gear.
Is it flame resistant or rated for fire use?
No. It is water rescue gear and is not rated for fire or high-heat use. It is not structural firefighting PPE and is not NFPA 1971 certified.
