The NRS Chinook PFD (NRS item 40009.06) combines Orbit Fit foam, a shaped back flotation panel and a mesh lower back that sits flush against a high-back seat. Questions about the Chinook PFD
How much flotation does the NRS Chinook PFD have?
NRS lists 14.6 lbs for XS/M and 15.75 lbs for both M/L and XL/XXL. It is rated Performance Level 70.
Is the Chinook a rescue PFD?
No. It has no quick-release rescue harness and is not listed as a Type V rescue vest. It is built for paddling, fishing and general boat work.
Does the Chinook work with a high-back kayak seat?
Yes. The back flotation panel is shaped to sit flush, and the lower back is mesh, so it rides comfortably above a high-back seat and vents heat.
How do I choose a size?
Use your chest measurement: XS/M is 30 to 38 inches, M/L is 36 to 46 inches and XL/2XL is 44 to 56 inches. See the chart above.
Is the Chinook PFD flame resistant?
No. The Chinook PFD is water safety gear. It is not flame resistant, it is not structural firefighting PPE and it is not NFPA 1971 certified, so keep it away from fire and high heat.
