The most important step in a raft repair is knowing what your boat is made of. Hypalon and other synthetic rubber boats take Clifton FA 4844 or FA 1065. PVC and urethane-coated boats take LA 4009 or LA 4123. Add ACC 4844 accelerator when you want a tougher, quicker-curing bond.

    Clifton Adhesive is a specialty adhesive maker from Wayne, New Jersey, founded in 1945, whose glues have long been used on rubber boats, rafts and other inflatables. NRS uses Clifton Hypalon Adhesive FA 4844 when building its own Hypalon boats.

  • Which Clifton glue do I use on a Hypalon boat?

    Use Clifton Hypalon Adhesive FA 4844, which bonds Hypalon to Hypalon and also works on neoprene and EPDM, or the one-part Hypalon (Shore) Adhesive FA 1065. Do not use Hypalon glue on PVC.

  • Which Clifton glue do I use on a PVC or urethane boat?

    Use Clifton PVC Adhesive LA 4009 mixed with Accelerator ACC 4844 for a two-part, high-strength bond, or the one-part Clifton Urethane Adhesive LA 4123 for PVC- and urethane-coated materials.

  • What does the Clifton accelerator do?

    Clifton Accelerator ACC 4844 mixes with FA 4844 or LA 4009 for a stronger bond and shorter cure time. Too much accelerator weakens the bond, so follow the mixing ratio on the can, and do not use ACC 4844 with FA 1065.

  • What else do I need to patch a raft?

    Along with glue, you need patch fabric that matches your boat, a solvent to clean the surfaces, a brush and a roller. Find patch material, valves and pumps in our raft repair section.
