Description:
The Pilot, rebuilt for search and rescue, with a glass breaker in the handle. The NRS Pilot SAR Knife (NRS item 47317.02) is made for swiftwater rescuers who work bare-handed or in gloves. It adds a tungsten carbide glass breaker and a contoured G10 handle to the Pilot design, so swiftwater and flood rescue crews can cut rope and break glass with one tool. See more water rescue knives.
Features
- Tungsten carbide glass breaker: embedded in the tip of the handle.
- Nickel-plated 420 HC stainless blade: the coating helps resist corrosion.
- Thumbs Up Sheath with living hinge: holds the blade securely and releases it with a one-handed flick of the thumb.
- PFD lash tab mount with lanyard point: the sheath attaches firmly to a lash tab, and the handle tip takes a lanyard as a backup in rough water.
- Partially serrated edge: reverse scallop serrations help sever tough fibers.
- Blunt tip and asymmetrical design: helps you orient the blade and helps prevent injury in a tight rescue.
- All-weather G10 handle: hand contouring, jimping on the spine and a comfortable grip for control in wet conditions, with bare or gloved hands.
- Oxygen tank valve wrench: built into the center of the handle.

Questions about the NRS Pilot SAR Knife
Does the Pilot SAR Knife have a glass breaker?
Yes. A tungsten carbide glass breaker is embedded in the tip of the handle.
How is it different from the standard Pilot?
The Pilot SAR adds the glass breaker and an all-weather G10 handle. It is 8 inch overall and 5.55 oz with the sheath, compared with 7.25 inch and 4.4 oz for the Pilot. Both use a 3.6 inch blade.
Can I use it with gloves on?
Yes. NRS designed it to be easy to operate with bare or gloved hands, and the Thumbs Up Sheath releases with one thumb.
Can I buy a spare sheath?
Yes. The NRS Pilot Sheath Replacement fits the Pilot SAR as well as the Pilot and Titanium Pilot.
Is the Pilot SAR Knife rated for fire or high heat?
No. It is a water rescue knife, not structural firefighting PPE, and it is not flame resistant, not NFPA 1971 certified and not rated for fire or high-heat use.
