The Outlaw: A Drop-Stitch Floor Raft
Every STAR Outlaw has a 4-inch drop-stitch floor bladder in a protective pocket of 4000 denier PVC on the bottom and 2000 denier PVC on top. The main tube is split into three air chambers to keep the boat afloat if one is damaged, and the Batten Attachment Thwart system lets your crew add or pull thwarts for a paddle crew or a rowing frame.

STAR FAQ
-
Who makes STAR rafts?
STAR began in South Carolina and became well known to East Coast paddlers for affordable boats. NRS acquired the STAR brand in 2017 and continues the line. STAR builds the Outlaw, High Five and Bug self-bailing rafts, inflatable kayaks and the parts that go with them.
-
Are STAR rafts rescue boats?
They are whitewater rafts, not certified rescue craft. STAR does not list a rescue or NFPA rating for them. Swiftwater and flood teams can use them as paddle or rowing platforms, but train your crew on the boat before you count on it at a call.
-
What is the difference between the STAR Outlaw, High Five and Bug rafts?
The Outlaw rafts (12 to 15 feet) have a 4-inch drop-stitch floor bladder and take a paddle crew or a rowing frame. The High Five is a sporty 9 ft 10 in boat for 2-4 paddlers with a drop-stitch floor insert. The Lightning, Wonder and Super Bug have a raised 12-inch floor between large diminishing tubes, so only the side tubes touch the water and they row more like a cataraft.
-
Do I need a special pump for a STAR drop-stitch floor?
Yes. STAR says a high-pressure hand pump is needed to fully inflate the drop-stitch floor on the Outlaw rafts, and the High Five floor insert inflates to a rigid 8-10 psi. A standard low-pressure raft pump will not get the floor stiff.
-
Which thwart fits my STAR Outlaw?
Order the STAR Outlaw Raft Thwart in the size that matches your raft: 120, 130, 140, 142, 150 or 160. It locks in with the Batten Attachment Thwart (BAT) system, and the battens are included. To add a new thwart spot, glue on the STAR Outlaw Batten System; you need two per thwart.
-
What material do I use to patch a STAR raft?
STAR PVC Material 2000d is the 52 oz, 2000 denier PVC STAR uses on its rafts and cataraft tubes. STAR PVC Material 1000d is the 44 oz fabric used on STAR inflatable kayaks. Both come off a roll about 60 inches wide and are sold by the running foot. STAR rafts also ship with a repair kit.
-
What is the warranty on STAR rafts?
STAR lists a 5-year retail warranty and a 3-year commercial warranty on the self-bailing rafts we carry. The Public Safety Store is an authorized STAR dealer, so if a raft or part has a problem, send us your order number and we'll help you with the claim.
