These Rothco ECWCS Gen III Level II mid-weight bottoms (Rothco 69050) have hook and loop running down the outside of each leg, so you can shed the layer quickly when the day warms up. They follow the Level II layer of the Extended Cold Weather Clothing System, the layered approach service members have used since the 1980s, and work just as well under duty pants on a cold post or scene.

Questions about the Level II breakaway bottoms
Why do these thermal bottoms have hook and loop on the legs?
The hook and loop runs down the outside of each leg so you can remove the bottoms quickly while still wearing boots. That is useful when you overheat on the move or come inside from the cold.
How warm is the ECWCS Level II layer?
Level II is the mid-weight layer of the system. The grid fleece holds warmth while wicking moisture, and it is meant to be layered under other clothing for extreme cold rather than worn alone.
How do the breakaway bottoms fit?
They have an elastic waistband that accommodates most body types and are cut to sit close as a base layer under pants. Choose your usual size from S through 2XL.
Is the Level II breakaway bottoms flame resistant?
No. The Level II breakaway bottoms is not flame-resistant (FR) apparel, is not NFPA certified and is not PPE or turnout gear. Wear it for training, travel, off-duty and everyday use, not for fire exposure.
