One Pump, Two Stages: The K-400

The K-400 is a true two-stage pump. The primary stage moves a large volume of air per stroke to fill a raft fast. When pumping gets hard, a twist of the handle locks out that stage and locks in the high-pressure top-off stage. It is 31 inches long, weighs 5 lbs, floats, and has no hose to kink.

K-Pump hand pumps inflate only; they do not deflate. The K-Mini, 100, 200, 40 and 400 top out around 8 psi, so use the K-20 HP for drop-stitch gear. Compare the pumps.

K-Pump FAQ

  • Who makes K-Pump?

K-Pump is a family-owned company in Oregon. Jim Kutella, a newly retired rafter and fisherman, built the first pumps in his basement workshop in January 2004 after years of pumps that kept breaking. K-Pump says its component parts are made in Oregon.

  • Which K-Pump should our rescue raft carry?

For filling a raft or cataraft on scene, the two-stage K-400 moves the most air and then switches to a high-pressure stage to top off. The K-40 is the same design 25% shorter, for kayaks and kickboats. The K-200 lets you top off standing up, and the K-100 or K-Mini rides in a boat bag for top-offs and repairs.

  • Will a K-Pump fit my boat's valves?

K-Pump says its pumps work on most valves, including Halkey-Roberts, Leafield and Boston, and each pump ships with valve adapters. For hard-to-inflate valves like Boston models, add the K-Pump Universal Adapter.

  • Can a K-Pump inflate a drop-stitch floor or board?

The K-Mini, 100, 200, 40 and 400 top out around 8 psi, which suits raft and cataraft tubes. For drop-stitch floors and inflatable boards, use the K-20 HP, a two-stage pump that reaches 6 psi in high-volume mode and up to 25 psi in high-pressure mode.

  • How do I maintain a K-Pump?

K-Pump recommends greasing your pump twice a year, and its K-Lube synthetic grease gives the best results. Carry a spare high pressure O-ring, which fits every K-Pump, and a high volume O-ring if you run a two-stage K-40 or K-400.

  • What is the Cache Cap?

The K-Mini, K-100 and K-200 have a Cache Cap: a small, waterproof storage spot inside the pump shaft for adapters, keys and small first aid or field-repair items. K-Pump also says these three models are built with an internal check valve for military-style valves (2023 and later).

  • What if my K-Pump has a problem?

The Public Safety Store is an authorized K-Pump dealer. If a pump or part is not working right, send us your order number and we'll help you sort it out with the maker.

  • Where can I buy K-Pump?
