Collar & Rank FAQ

How many bugles does each fire rank wear?

By Hero's Pride's labels: one bugle for Lieutenant, two parallel or crossed bugles for Captain, three for Assistant Chief, four for Deputy Chief and five for Chief. Layouts vary by department, so check your uniform policy.

What is a merrowed border?

A merrowed border is a raised, overlocked stitch around the edge of a cloth patch or chevron. It gives a finished edge that resists fraying.

Clutch back or pin and safety catch?

Clutch backs push onto posts through the collar and sit flat. A pin and safety catch works like a brooch pin. Both are listed by name, so pick the one your uniform calls for.
