Face Masks - N95, Cloth, Procedure
Face Masks
This category holds two kinds of face protection: the 3M N95 8511 respirator in a box of 10, and disposable face masks in a full box of 50. They serve different jobs, so it helps to know which one you need before you buy.
How to choose
- N95 respirators: An N95 is a NIOSH-approved respirator designed to filter at least 95% of airborne particles when it seals to the face. It is the choice for dust, smoke particulates and airborne illness concerns.
- Disposable masks: Loose-fitting disposable masks are a basic barrier against splashes and droplets. They are not respirators and do not seal to the face.
- Fit: An N95 only works if it seals. Facial hair and the wrong size can break the seal, and workplace respirator programs usually require a fit test.

Face Mask FAQ
What is the difference between an N95 and a disposable mask?
An N95 is a tight-fitting respirator that filters airborne particles. A disposable face mask is loose fitting and mainly blocks droplets and splashes from the wearer and others.
How often should I replace my mask?
Replace a mask when it becomes wet, dirty, damaged or hard to breathe through. Disposable masks are meant for single use.
