Friction Lock or Positive Lock?

A friction-lock bracket grips the tool by its handle and lets go with a firm pull. A positive-lock bracket adds a strap, so the tool stays put over rough roads until you release it. Several PAC brackets work both ways: the Flexmount Tall HD and Stow-N-Lok can be used with or without their strap.

PAC Tool Mounts FAQ

  • Who makes PAC Tool Mounts?

PAC Tool Mounts are made by Performance Advantage Company, a privately owned maker of tool mounting brackets in Lancaster, New York, founded in 1992. Its main market is the fire service, and it also serves EMS, law enforcement, military and utilities.

  • What is the difference between a friction lock and a positive lock bracket?

A friction-lock bracket, like the Hooklok, holds a tool by gripping it and releases with a pull. A positive-lock bracket, like the Handlelok, Toollok HD or Jumbolok, adds a strap that has to be released first. The Flexmount Tall HD and Stow-N-Lok combine both and can be used with or without the strap.

  • Which PAC bracket holds an axe or a bar?

The Handlelok is made for axes, hammers, bars and similar tools. It has a soft textured pad, two pivot positions and a STRETCHLOK strap for instant release. For a bigger handle, the Jumbolok grips from 3/8 to 3-1/4 inches.

  • Can PAC brackets go inside a compartment or near electrical gear?

PAC lists these brackets as weather and UV resistant and non-conductive, and they can be mounted horizontally or vertically. Use bolts sized for your wall or tool board, and check that the tool clears doors and shelves.
