FX Flex: A Class A Look That Stretches

FX Flex, formerly called FX S.T.A.T., is 5.8 oz. 65/35 poly-cotton mini rip-stop stretch fabric. The Class A shirt has a concealed zipper front, scalloped pocket flaps with VELCRO brand closures, knit mesh stretch panels under the arms, and wire pass-throughs at the side seams, epaulets and pocket flaps for a camera or radio mic. The 6-pocket pant adds a gusseted crotch and two concealed cargo pockets.

Flying Cross Men's Shirt Sizes

Flying Cross sizes men's alpha-sized shirts (FX Flex and Power Flex) by neck and chest. These are body measurements in inches, not garment measurements. Command shirts are sold by neck size, so use the Neck column to pick yours.

How we make it easy

  • Flying Cross makes most long sleeve shirts in sleeve lengths 32 to 37, and some styles add 38/39. The sleeve menu on each listing shows exactly what we carry.
  • Dress coats are sized by chest. Flying Cross makes Short lengths 1" shorter and Long lengths 1" longer than Regular in body and sleeve. Command & Class A
  • Women's FX Flex shirts are sold by bust size and women's pants by women's size. The size menu on each listing shows exactly what we carry.

  • Who makes Flying Cross uniforms?

    Flying Cross is a brand of Fechheimer Brothers Company, which began in 1842 as a dry goods store in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is still headquartered in Cincinnati, owns union plants in Hodgenville, Kentucky and Grantsville, Maryland, and is a Berkshire Hathaway company. The name comes from the Distinguished Flying Cross.

  • Is Flying Cross FX Flex the same as FX S.T.A.T.?

    Yes. Flying Cross renamed FX S.T.A.T. to FX Flex, and some of our listings still use the old name. It's the same 5.8 oz. 65/35 poly-cotton mini rip-stop stretch uniform, with a concealed zipper front on the Class A shirt and a 6-pocket pant with a gusseted crotch.

  • What is the Flying Cross Power Flex shirt?

    Power Flex is a Class A uniform shirt in 6.0 oz. 100% low-sheen knit polyester with all-way stretch. Flying Cross says it has three times the stretch of a traditional woven uniform. It is wrinkle resistant enough to skip ironing, anti-static and odor resistant, PFAS free and rated UPF 50+, with a concealed front zipper and permanent creases.

  • Are Flying Cross uniforms flame resistant?

    Not the ones we carry. Flying Cross lists no flame-resistant or NFPA rating for FX Flex, Power Flex or Command, so wear them as duty and dress uniforms, not as firefighting PPE. Flying Cross does make a separate FR line, which we don't stock.

  • How do Flying Cross shirts fit?

    Flying Cross sizes FX Flex and Power Flex shirts from Small (neck 14-14 1/2, chest 34-36) to 6X-Large (neck 22-22 1/2, chest 66-68), measured on the body. Command shirts are sold by neck size, and most long sleeve styles come in sleeve lengths 32 to 37. The sleeve menu on each listing shows the exact choices.

  • What are Flying Cross Class A dress coats made of?

    Both are 100% polyester. The single breasted coat has a four-button front, notched lapels, two pleated breast pockets with scalloped flaps, sweat shields and a full lining. The double breasted coat is 11-11 1/2 oz. serge, fully lined, with an inside breast pocket. Both have a badge tab and come in Short, Regular and Long.

  • How do I wash Flying Cross Command uniforms?

    Flying Cross says its 100% polyester Command uniforms are easy care: wash warm or cold (not hot), turn them inside out to keep the color bright, and tumble dry on the lowest setting. The VISA System 3 finish is permanent and won't wash out.
