Breakaway Vests for Traffic Scenes
A breakaway vest pulls apart if it snags on a vehicle or equipment. The LUX-PSF fire and LUX-PSP police vests are ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 Type P Class 2 with hook-and-loop breakaway closures, two mic tabs and a clear ID badge pocket. The 5-point breakaway LUX-SSBRP and mesh LUX-SSBRPC are Type R Class 2 in yellow or orange.

OccuNomix Vest & Tee Sizes
Sizes come from OccuNomix's chest-size chart. Measure at the fullest part of your chest, under your arms, with the tape level. OccuNomix vests and jackets are sized to fit over your work clothes. Reflective tape on a T-shirt doesn't stretch, so size up for a looser fit.
| Size | Chest | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| S | 32-34" | Vests & tees |
| M | 36-38" | Vests & tees |
| L | 40-42" | Vests & tees |
| XL | 44-46" | Vests & tees |
| 2X | 48-50" | Vests & tees |

OccuNomix FAQ
-
Who makes OccuNomix?
OccuNomix makes high visibility safety apparel, ergonomic supports and cold and heat stress gear, and has more than 35 years of experience. Its hi-vis line includes vests, T-shirts, outerwear and rainwear, and many of its vests carry the OccuLux name. In 2018 TechNiche cooling products joined OccuNomix, and its Heat Pax warmers cover cold weather.
-
What is the difference between ANSI Type P and Type R vests?
ANSI/ISEA 107 Type P is the public safety type, for responders such as fire, police and EMS; Type R is for roadway and temporary traffic control work. OccuNomix lists the LUX-PSF fire vest and LUX-PSP police vest as Type P Class 2. Its other OccuLux vests we carry are Type R, in Class 2 or Class 3.
-
Which OccuNomix vests are ANSI Class 3?
OccuNomix lists the LUX-HSCOOL3 mesh vest and LUX-HSFULLG solid vest as Type R Class 3; both have sleeves. The LUX-HSFGZ and LUX-HSLDMS3 are labeled Class 3 but are no longer on OccuNomix's site. The FR rain jacket is also Type R Class 3.
-
Are OccuNomix breakaway vests worth it?
If you work around moving vehicles or equipment, yes. A breakaway vest is held together with hook-and-loop that releases when the vest is tugged with moderate force, so it pulls apart instead of dragging you. The LUX-SSBRP and LUX-SSBRPC have 5-point breakaway, and the LUX-PSF and LUX-PSP are breakaway public safety vests.
-
Are the OccuNomix FR rain jacket and bib pants arc rated?
Yes. Both meet ASTM F1891 for arc flash and ASTM F2733 for flash fire, and the arc rating is printed on the garment. The bib pants have an ATPV of 18.5 cal/cm² and are ANSI Class E, and the jacket is ANSI Type R Class 3. They are rain gear for utility and roadway work, not firefighting turnout gear.
-
How do OccuNomix vests fit?
OccuNomix sizes vests and jackets to fit over work clothes, using chest measurements from S (32-34") to 5X (60-62"). Public safety and expandable vests come in M/L, XL/2X and 3X/4X. Reflective tape on a T-shirt doesn't stretch, so OccuNomix suggests going up a size for a looser fit.
-
Which OccuNomix items are not ANSI compliant?
The LUX-300 cotton safety tee and LUX-XGLPL mesh vest with legend are non-ANSI, and the ANSI standard doesn't apply to the LUX-KCR knit cap. The FR rain bib is Class E, which covers pants and bibs and is not Class 2 or 3 on its own. If your department or a roadway job requires ANSI Class 2 or 3, choose a rated vest.
