EMS Bags Sized for the Call

Lightning X has made EMT bags since 2004 and pre-stocked trauma kits since 2008. Start with the small LXMB20 for a BLS kit, step up to the LXMB25 or LXMB30 when you need room for C-collars and a BVM, and choose the structured LXMB65 when you carry a D oxygen cylinder. Its side pocket lets you reach the cylinder without opening the main compartment.

Lightning X Products FAQ

  • Who makes Lightning X Products?

Lightning X Products, Inc. is a small, family-owned company in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was started in June 2000 as Fire & Safety Outfitters by Andy Spivey, then an EMT, and his father John, and became Lightning X Products in 2006. Lightning X designs its bags in-house and says many of its employees are former EMTs and firefighters.

  • Are Lightning X gear bags NFPA certified?

Lightning X does not list NFPA certification for its gear bags. They are for storing and carrying your gear, not protective equipment. The LXFB99 is built with air- and water-tight TPU fabric to contain off-gassing from contaminated turnout gear until it can be cleaned, but it does not clean the gear.

Wash contaminated gear according to your department's procedures and the gear maker's instructions.

  • Which Lightning X turnout gear bag is the biggest?

The LXFB10 3XL measures 34 x 16 x 18 inches. Lightning X says it can hold up to two full sets of turnout gear, including helmets, boots and SCBA masks. It grew out of Lightning X's first turnout bag from 2003, which the company says was the first firefighter bag with reflective striping sewn on.

The LXFB10XT is the same 3XL size in tan ripstop nylon.

  • Do Lightning X EMS bags come stocked?

Bag-only models like the LXMB20, LXMB30 and LXMB35 ship empty. Stocked versions include the fill kit in the name, such as the MB30-SKC and MB25-SKB. You can also add a Lightning X fill kit: LXSMK-A basic, LXSMK-B standard, LXSMK-C deluxe, LXSMK-D advanced trauma or LXSMK-E oxygen supplies.

  • What size Lightning X EMS bag do I need?

For a basic BLS kit, the LXMB20 (17 x 9 x 11 in.) or the even smaller LXMB10 works well. The LXMB30 (19 x 15 x 9 in.) adds room for C-collars and a BVM. The modular LXMB35 holds a full trauma kit without oxygen. If you carry a D cylinder, choose the LXMB65, the LXMB50 duffel or the LXMB60 backpack.

  • Which SCBA masks fit Lightning X mask bags?

Lightning X says the fleece-lined LXFB30 fits modern SCBA facepieces with a mask-mounted regulator and most voice or comms devices. It also holds most air-line facepieces with APR cartridges, but not larger CBRN canisters. The LXFB35 adds a drawstring closure and swivel snap hook, and Lightning X says it fits most major SCBA brands.

  • What warranty comes with Lightning X bags?

Lightning X warrants its gear bags against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use: two years for firefighter and rescue bags (LXFB and LXRB) and four years for medical and trauma bags (LXMB) and police and tactical bags (LXPB).

The warranty covers purchases made direct from Lightning X or from an authorized dealer. The Public Safety Store is an authorized Lightning X dealer, so bags bought here are covered. Need to make a warranty claim? Contact us and we'll help.
