According to Deputy Sheriff Buck Fortner, Dallas County Sheriff’s Department Fleet Administrator, an officer was in an accident with another vehicle while going code 3 through an intersection. In the lawsuit that followed, the jury awarded liability judgements to several departments. However this is where it gets really interesting. At only 2 1/8 inch tall, this bulldog rugged console mount siren was designed to easily fit into a police or ambulance console or even a dash and still use much less space that allows you to install other equipment like a switch box. Not only is the siren small in size, but it has a huge sound. This is one firefighter siren that has the capability to change the way the drivers perceive your vehicle that is approaching them and requesting the right of way. The realistic sounding mechanical tone and the "Stutter Air Horn" the SA-500M Cruiser firefighter & firetruck siren makes drivers thing that a huge engine or truck company is coming so they instinctively are more apt to grant you the right of way that you are requesting. The effectiveness at clearing traffic IS KEY in helping to improve safety by reducing emergency vehicle near-misses, and reduce response time so that you may get to the scene quicker. Control the siren with a rotary switch that allows you to select siren tones or your radio as an output to the speaker. You can also configure 2 momentary push buttons that will allow for siren tone override. Control your radio and PA volume with 2 volume knobs and finally a master on/off switch finishes out the faceplate for the siren. The noise-cancelling PA microphone is a high quality siren microphone with a large push-to-talk (PTT) button that is easy to use even in the dark. The face plate lights up in the dark with the LED back lighting that can be controlled via your vehicles dimmer circuit. You can also control your siren by using the factory horn circuit from your vehicle. This feature is called the Horn Ring Cycler 2 (HRC2). That allows you to operate the siren hands free by cycling through the siren tones simply by pressing your horn. Wire up the Siren Cutout / Park kill feature so that when you arrive on scene and open your door the siren will shut off. We recommend turning your siren off before that time though to save the ears of citizens or co-workers! The SA-500 includes a lot of features. You don't have to use all of them. That is why you can program the police / fire siren to your needs easily by using the internal DIP switches. Dip switches are a simple way that you can turn certain features of the SA-500 Carson Police Fire Siren on or off. Many sirens are only 100 watts. This is the standard. However, with the SA-500 Cruiser siren, it is 200 watts. You can power 2 siren speakers with the siren. It does not have dual tone capability so both speakers will be sounding the same thing, but with 200 watts, it will be louder and give you more warning power! Internal fusing prevents short circuit / overheating and with an output and power LED indicator light on the front panel, you don't have to take the entire siren out before you begin to diagnose any problem you may have. Another notable feature of the siren is that to wire the siren, you don't need a harness. The siren has screw down terminals so that you can simply strip your wire, then screw it down to the back of the siren. If for some reason that you need to take your siren out, remove the wiring block and take it away. You don't have to cut wires in order to do this.
